  • WELCOME!

My philosophy of "Life, Laughter, and Love" was inspired by my wife when she had it engraved in my wedding ring, always there to remind me what's important. It's also what guides me to capture what I do, when I have a camera in my hand.

Friends will ask me if I consider it work, but I ask, how can it be? When I am blessed to be able to share such wonderful moments in peoples lives, to be shared forever, I can't call it work, but I can tell you it's the best job in the world. And I would love to share it with you!

The Tuomaala Family and I ventured out one early morning to enjoy a nice stroll along the Detroit Riverwalk…and some fun family photos! More than a few laughs were shared this day, and I am SURE you can tell the little ones had more than enough energy to share with everyone! Their smiles certainly are infectious!

This was my first time covering an Orthodox Jewish Wedding, and what a beautiful celebration it was at the AMAZINGLY beautiful Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield Michigan!

Alanna practically glowed in anticipation of seeing her groom for the first time in a week, and Daniel had such a great circle of loving friends around him, the party practically followed wherever they went! It was a new experience for me covering these beautiful traditions, and I couldn’t have been more honoured to have been a part of it all!

A BIG Thank you for Jennifer Buehrer from Luna Dulce Photography for second shooting with me this day, and an even BIGGER congratulations to Alanna and Daniel on their journey through life as a married couple!

Since this wedding was so unique, I had to split it into two parts. Since part one was all about the engagement photos, this one is all about the wedding day!

Despite the unusual size for an Indian Wedding (35 total guests!), it was every bit as colourful and celebratory, yet full of intimacy and packed with love from two special families. It was an honour to have gotten to know both families, and to have been witness to such a heartwarming and fun weekend with them! PLEASE wish both Jeff and Ridhima a HUGE congratulations, tag everyone you can in the photos, and don’t forget to check out the facebook page  for even more fun wedding photos at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography

Ridhima and Jeff knew what they wanted, and did it all their way…. Engagement Photos AND Wedding all in the same weekend!

I had such a great time getting to know them and their family, and even though these photos were taken on Day 2 of 3, I felt they should be shown first – as they are technically their “engagement” photos! We walked all over Ann Arbor, from the Law Quad to the Spinning Black Cube (I don’t know the name of it..but it was really cool!)

Wish the happy couple a HUGE Congratulations, and don’t forget to check out the facebook page  for even more fun wedding photos at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography – PART 2 IS NEXT!

This preview is a little bigger than others…partly because it’s chock full of some of the more wonderful people in my life that I consider friends, and part because there was just too much love and partying to be shown!

Andrea and Marius are a fantastic example of two loving people who are a match in every sense of the word. You feel it just being around them, and I was honoured to be a part of their special day. (I even got to share it with the talented Robin-to-my-Batman, Ed Maurer!) Wish the happy couple a HUGE congratulations, tag your friends, hit SHARE and share the love to anyone you know who might enjoy them, and don’t forget to check out even more fun wedding photography on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !
